Little Girl On The Plane 11/20/2009
A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, 'Let's talk. I've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.' The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to the stranger, 'What would you like to talk about?' 'Oh, I don't know,' said the stranger. 'How about nuclear power?' and he smiles. OK, ' she said. 'That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass - . Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?' The stranger, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, 'Hmmm, I have no idea.' To which the little girl replies, 'Do you really feel qualified to discuss nuclear power when you don't know shit? Igot this from a friend of mine. You have probably heard it before, but anyway. 2 Comments As I told you on Twitter, I'll make 10 special twitter backgrounds. If you think you're beaten, you are! 10/07/2009
If you think you're beaten, you are; If you think you dare not, you don't; If you'd like to win, but think, you can't It's almost a cinch you won't. If you think you will lose, you're lost; For out in the world we find, Success begins with a fellow's will, It's all in the state of mind. If you think you're outclassed, you are; You've got to think high to rise. You've got to hustle before You can ever win a prize. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man, But sooner or later the man who wins Is the one who thinks he can. Walter D. Wintle, "The Man Who Thinks He Can" How do I change? 10/07/2009
If I feel depressed I will sing. If I feel sad I will laugh. If I feel ill I will double my labour. If I feel fear I will plunge ahead. If I feel inferior I will wear new garments. If I feel uncertain I will raise my voice. If I feel poverty I will think of wealth to come. If I feel incompetent I will think of past success. If I feel insignificant I will remember my goals. Today I will be the master of my emotions. Og Mandino All the world's a stage 09/29/2009
All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. At first the infant, Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms; Then the whining school-boy, with his satchel And shining morning face, creeping like snail Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier, Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard, Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel, Seeking the bubble reputation Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice, In fair round belly with good capon lin'd, With eyes severe and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon, With spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose, well sav'd, a world too wide For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion; Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. William Shakespeare As You Like It, 2. 7 Your profession is not what brings home your paycheck. Your profession is what you were put on earth to do. With such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling. Vincent Van Gogh Impossible is just a 10 letter word 09/26/2009
Everyone, at some point of his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn't fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer? Who hasn't dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships? Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that, dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic. This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing. But you know what? Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher. The most common problem to setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking I can't do this. It's too hard. It's too impossible. No one can do this. However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment. Remember that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee. Theoretically, they said, it was impossible for the bumblebee to fly. Unfortunately for the bumble, bee no one has told it so. So fly it does. On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations. If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream. Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things you know you can doí. Under another header, write the things you might be able to do.í And under one more, list the things that that are impossible for you to do. Now look at all the headers strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things you know you can doí. Check them when you are able to accomplish them. As you slowly are able to check all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads you might be able to do. As of the items you wrote under things I could do are accomplished, you can move the goals that are under things that are ëimpossible for you to doí to the list of things you might be able to do. As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begin to seem possible after all. You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high, and start working towards that goal little by little. However, it also is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic. Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned. On the other hand, if you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would laugh at you. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities. Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be had work and discipline. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one. Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you are put out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, No pain, no gain? That is as true as it can be. So dream on, friend! Don't get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible = I'm possible Make this day the best day ever for someone that does not expect it, but why,who and how? (This post is for you Lisa ;-) Short: The best days in my life has been when: 1. I did something for those who could not pay me back, were homeless, tired or had lost their hope. 2. Someone made me feel important and precious, not because of me doing something, but despite of me doing something. Why make this day the best ever for someone that does not expect it? 1. Because you are going to feel better. They are going to feel better, and you both will experience wonderful things. 2. Because this life is weird, this world is cold (not thinking of global warming). 3. Because doing it will change your life for ever. Who should I make this day the best ever for (the one that does not expect it)? 1. Enter a quiet room. The first person that comes to mind that will not expect it, could be the person 2. Or, the poor person on the sidewalk. 3. Or, the lonely person that is passing your way 4. Or, the wife or the husband or the kid that is struggling 5. Or, just the… you'll know. How should I make this day the best ever for someone that does not expect it? 1. You'll know in your hear right there and then. 2. Or, buy some great lunch for two, and sit down next too that person and share the meal 3. Or, give that someone a great hug and tell him or her that they are precious. 4. Or, there are endless possibilities… Hug, arthur Are You Afraid of Being Successful 09/20/2009
